IEEE PES Atlanta Technical Talk – Cyber-Informed Engineering

Room: Auditorium, Bldg: Building 1, 2100 East Exchange Place, Tucker, Georgia, United States, 30084

Cyber-Informed Engineering (CIE) is an emerging method to integrate cybersecurity considerations into the conception, design, development, and operation of any physical system that has digital connectivity, monitoring, or control. CIE complements — but does not replace — the application of cybersecurity standards or practices currently in place within an organization. Rather, it expands cybersecurity decisions into the engineering space, not by asking engineers to become cyber experts, but by calling on engineers to apply engineering tools and make engineering decisions that improve cybersecurity outcomes. CIE examines the engineering consequences that a sophisticated cyber attacker could achieve, and drives engineering changes that may provide deterministic mitigations to limit or eliminate those consequences. Engineers and technicians that design critical energy infrastructure installations can integrate the 12 principles of CIE into each phase of the engineering lifecycle, from concept to retirement. These principles are aimed at system or design engineers, operators, and technicians, rather than software engineers or operational cybersecurity practitioners, because the engineers who design, build, operate, and maintain the physical infrastructure are best positioned to leverage a system’s engineering design to diminish the severity of cyber attacks or digital technology failures. This approach creates new opportunities for engineering teams — and not just cybersecurity teams — to secure the system using the physics and mechanics of engineering controls — not just digital monitoring and controls. Join us for a Region-Wide Senior Membership Event in Region 3

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/416787

The Region 3 Senior Membership Team warmly invites IEEE members eligible for senior membership to participate in a special Senior Member Roundup on June 8th, 2024, at 12 PM EDT. Eligibility requires being an IEEE member in good standing with at least ten years of professional or academic achievements. For more information on the senior membership criteria, please visit the IEEE senior membership page: https://www.ieee.org/membership/senior/. This event is designed to support qualified IEEE members in their journey to Senior Member status, providing essential nominations and reference assistance. To begin, contact Hermann Amaya, the Region 3 Senior Member Coordinator, at hermann.amaya.us@ieee.org . Additionally, please CC r3zoompoc@lg2020.org on your email to ensure we can track your request accurately. You will need to provide your resume (using the Region 3 Senior Member Resume Template), member number, IEEE section, and email address. Participants will be matched with references for a live 30-minute introductory interview via Zoom, leading to the completion of the Senior Member nomination package. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow Senior Members across the region and globally, making the elevation process enjoyable and straightforward. Important Details: - Advance Registration Required: You must confirm your participation with Hermann.Amaya.us@ieee.org directly and CC r3zoompoc@lg2020.org. Send your name, section, email, member number, and a resume formatted for senior membership. - Resources: - Senior Member Resume Template: ((https://docs.google.com/document/d/12ElAWXSrAUat9YHk35Up-DgaweKjZKW1/edit)) - Senior Member Participant Guide: ((https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-yqUrwbrpjUJ9D3Sy_j5Ok5Q1gZ6rZB_/view)) We look forward to your participation and celebrating your elevation to Senior Member status together!
